Greetings Steemit friends,
The clouds have been dark over the football world. Everyone around the globe has been in shock following the tragic death of Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva. Two days ago, when I first heard about the death of the Liverpool player, I did not believe it. I remembered seeing pictures of his recent wedding, just days before. Out of disbelief, I quickly searched online, and there it was, making headlines on major news blogs.
It was such heartbreaking news. A player who had just qualified for his national team had gone. What makes it even more painful is that it happened through an accident, giving no chance to speak to family and friends. These are the kinds of moments that make me stop and question a lot of things around me.
Jota is gone, and we will never see him again. Only his memories will remain on our screens. I remember watching the match where he scored his last goal in the Premier League, against Everton. He was an absolute great player and contributed significantly to Liverpool’s success in the league last season.
The entire football world, from FIFA to clubs and fans, has been pouring out condolences to his family and friends. Clubs all over the world have observed moments of silence to honor Jota and his brother.
There are many lessons to learn from this tragedy. It reminds us that death doesn’t knock before it enters. Jota left behind a wife and three children, who did not even get the chance to say goodbye. Every moment matters. Appreciate the time you have. Be happy even with the people who may hurt you. Once you are gone, no corrections can be made. Value the now. I always say, you can’t rewind a day, so make the best of it and be happy.
It was another day in the seaside town of Limbe with my family. I got up early this morning and started with the kids’ laundry. By the time I was done, breakfast was ready, and we all sat down to eat together. The kids are on holiday, and I’m also around with no urgent plans to go out, which means more quality time with the family.
After breakfast, I logged onto my laptop to start work. Since I’m not going to the office physically, I’m working remotely from home. I checked my emails and had a few tasks from my clients. Most of the time, these are content updates. Today, I had two cases of content edits and one email from a potential client who left his number for a WhatsApp follow-up.
I took note of it and scheduled it for the next day. I had to step out to make some inquiries about different schools. I had gathered all the options and planned to do the math balancing budget, quality, and other important factors. I got back home just in time for lunch.
I ate while watching a program on TV. Most sports channels were filled with headlines about Jota and his brother’s tragic death, the FIFA Club World Cup, and transfer news. One breaking story was the accusation against Thomas Partey, the Arsenal player. Sadly, this is not rare with celebrities. We have seen several cases where big names end up behind prison walls over similar offenses.
To wrap up my day, I watched the first quarterfinal match between Fluminense and Al-Hilal. These two teams have strong reputations in their respective regions and have impressed throughout the competition. Both teams managed to knock out big clubs like Manchester City and Inter Milan to book their spots in the quarterfinals.
They came in with great energy, both ready to fight for a place in the next stage. Fluminense opened the scoring in the first half, but Al-Hilal equalized early in the second half. It was a balanced and entertaining game. Fluminense later capitalized on a defensive error from Al-Hilal to score their second goal.
Al-Hilal pushed hard to come back. But like we always say, in football, sometimes you need a little luck. And just like that, their journey in the competition came to an end. Personally, I think they performed well and should return home with their heads held high. After the final whistle, I called it a day and retired to bed.
Cheers
