The water park opens at 10 a.m., so we set off from home at 9:30. We arrived just a few minutes past 10.
We noticed there weren't many people outside, nothing like the huge crowds described online. Maybe it was because we chose a weekday – most adults were at work, and even though kids were on summer vacation, not that many full-time parents were around.
Once we got inside, there were only a handful of people here and there. It seemed around 80% of the early visitors were hotel guests staying on the premises.
During peak summer months – July and August – the price for a two-day, one-night hotel stay that includes two adult tickets had jumped to either 1,500 or 1,600 yuan (I can't remember exactly). That's pretty expensive. Luckily, we live nearby, so we didn't need to stay at the hotel, saving us a lot of money.
What's more, I'd done my homework before coming. I bought water shoes, water guns, and inflatable rings online – all at low prices with great value. For example, the water shoes sold for 30 or 40 yuan on-site, but I got mine for just 5 yuan on Pinduoduo, and the quality was good. Water shoes are a must – flip-flops are inconvenient at various attractions and pools, slowing you down. You only need to take them off for a few extreme rides; otherwise, you can wear them all the time, which protects your feet from sharp objects.
After entering the park, we headed straight for the wave pool. Only one or two kids were waiting in line, almost no one else. My child and I quickly joined the queue. We ended up going on it five or six times – it was so much fun.
Before getting on, the staff and instructors gave us instructions: I was to lie on the surfboard, propping myself up with my arms holding onto both sides, while keeping my lower back and legs hanging off the edge. They told us that to turn left or right, we just needed to lift the edge of the board slightly or lean our bodies in that direction.
My child tried several times. The first two times, they got knocked off by the waves within seconds, but later on, they managed to stay on for much longer. I surprisingly stayed on for two or three minutes on my first try – it was really enjoyable.
One thing, though: I should have brought goggles. Since you're propping yourself up with your arms, the waves are so big that water constantly splashes in your face, making it impossible to open your eyes.
After the wave pool, we went on all the other indoor rides. The big slides and the "big horn" ride, which are seven or eight stories high, require riders to be over 1.4 meters tall and weigh at least 40 kilograms. My child just met the weight requirement, so they got to join us.
We didn't get any photos of these two big rides because we had to put our phones away – we didn't want them flying off during the ride, which would have been bad. But we could take photos freely on the smaller slides.
Later, when we got tired, we went to relax in the infinity pool on the second floor. To be honest, it's a great spot for taking photos. But after messing around with my son, I was wearing a conservative yellow one-piece swimsuit, my face and hair were soaking wet – there was no style or beauty at all, just pure mess. But we had a blast. When my son took photos of me, I made all sorts of funny faces and grinned like an idiot.
At noon, we took out the food we'd brought and finished our lunch in 15 to 20 minutes at the first-floor rest area. We had a self-heating hot pot and some pastries – it worked out really well.
We played for another two hours in the afternoon, but noticed my child's hands and feet were all pruney from being in the water too long, so we had to stop. We left around 3 p.m.
Overall, the environment was great. The indoor area wasn't stuffy at all, unlike what some online reviews said – it was nothing like being steamed in a pot.
