Daily Menu Delicacies Week No. 78 // (12-07-2025) // Spicy Chicken Salan – A Homestyle Favorite

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your time in the kitchen just like I do! This is your foodie friend @isha-rehman and I am thrilled to be participating in the Daily Menu Delicacies Week No. 78 hosted by the warm and vibrant #Steemit-Ironchef community.

Today I am sharing with you all a delicious homemade dish that is extremely close to my heart — Chicken Salan (Spicy Chicken Curry). It is a traditional Pakistani meal that is loved by familie across generation. The rich aroma flavorful spice and comforting warmth of this curry make it a staple in many home including mine.

About My Daily Menu: Chicken Salan

As part of our regular home cooking I prepare Chicken Salan for lunch today. It one of those dishe that bring the whole family together around the dining table. The process of making it fill the kitchen with an aroma that instantly make everyone hungry.
It was serve with fresh homemade chapati a chill glass of lassi and a simple onion salad with lemon juice and a sprinkle of salt and red chili. Together it create the perfect homely lunch that both satisfying and soul warming.

Ingredient Used:

Here are the basic ingredient I used for this meal. These are easily available in most kitchen:

½ kg chicken
2 medium onions
2 tomatoes
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp red chili powder
½ tsp turmeric
1 tsp coriander powder
Salt to taste
1–2 green chilies
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
3–4 tbsp cooking oil

Step-by-Step Cooking Instruction:

Saute the onion:

In a pan heat oil and add finely chopped onions. Fry until golden brown which forms the base of a flavorful curry.

Add garlic & spices:

Add the ginger-garlic paste cook until the raw smell is gone. Then add red chili powder turmeric and coriander powder. Stir for a few seconds.

In goes the chicken:

Add chicken piece and stir fry on medium heat until the meat change color and is slightly brown.

Tomato magic:

Add the pureed tomatoe and cooked until oil begin to separate from the masala. This show everything is well cook and flavorful.

Simmer time:

Add water depending on how thicked or thin you want the gravy. Cover and cook until the chicken is tender and the gravy reache your desire consistency.

Final touches:

Garnish with freshly chopp coriander and green chilie. Serve hot.

My Experience Today:

Cooking this dish remind me of the power of traditional food how it connect us with our roots our familie and even our emotion. As soon as the curry was serve my sibling gather around eager to enjoy it with fresh chapati.I felt proud seeing them enjoy something I cooked with love. This dish may be simple but it’s full of warmth spice and happiness. That what make it delicious.
