BIWTA Narayanganj River Port, Narayanganj

Today, I will pin up the Narayanganj River Port of our country on the Steem-atlas Map, which is operated by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).

Narayanganj River Port is a significant river terminal in the Narayanganj district and is also known as an ancient port, as it was used by the British for trade with Kolkata. Consequently, this port is considered one of the ancient ports of our country. The port officially began operations in 1862.

This port is located in the city of Narayanganj in our country, and this city has grown significantly due to the presence of this port since ancient times.

This port is located on the Shitalakshya River of Narayanganj, and it is an important part of the inland water transport network of the country. Narayanganj port is mainly used for the movement of cargo ships and passenger launches, and has the necessary infrastructure and facilities for the movement of goods.

There are about 54 river ports under BIWTA in our country, and out of these 54, this river port is quite old. This is a port that is more than 100 years old. It is located 2 kilometers south of Narayanganj city.

This river port is quite functional for business and passengers. Rivers have been the best way to import and export goods since ancient times, and have lowered the cost of goods.

There is a gate for the entrance inside this port, and a ticket of 10 taka is required to enter, and there is a ticket counter. People have been kept by BIWTA to collect tickets, and they are checked there and allowed inside; otherwise, they cannot enter. I entered as a tourist after buying a ticket, and I took pictures inside with their permission.

There is an administrative accommodation inside BIWTA for its security. They are working there for the security of this shipping transport. While the workers there are on duty, they are working under complete control; if there is any problem anywhere, they solve it there.

There is a daily living space for the shipping staff, it is made only for them, no one can enter there if they want, and it is a separate living space for their personnel. They have everything there.

Mosque

There is a mosque for prayers where the shipping officials, as well as everyone in the port, and all the passengers can pray. There is an air-conditioned system inside the mosque, so the doors are closed. This mosque is open to everyone.

Seating area

Inside, there is a waiting room for passengers, and there are several places to sit. Passengers are waiting for the launch, and many passenger launches arrive at night, so they spend the night there and leave the port in the morning, and spend the night there with security.

Garden

There is a beautiful garden inside, and the river is visible from there. And they do the maintenance of the trees themselves, they always keep them clean and tidy, and they plant different types of trees.

Launch

I see a terminal where passenger and cargo ships and launches are lined up, and there are security forces there as usual, as it controls the navigation routes of BIWTA launches and steamers. There is no problem there, it is always under the rule of law, and therefore it is quite crowded.

Fruits shops

There are food shops, and in some places, fruit shops are seen; they sell fruit there. Launch passengers buy fruits while going to distant relatives' houses.

Bridge

Some distance from the port, there is a foot over bridge that spans the banks of the river where there is movement of people and various goods from ships.

There is an iron gate to enter the port, and there is BIWTA written inside the gate. This makes it easy to understand its identity. During the British period, jute was exported from our country to various countries through this river port, and the British planned to build a port here because of the cool breezes of the Shitalakshya River. Today, Narayanganj has made this river port a convenient place for business worth crores of taka.

Through this port, people of our country travel for business to all regions, and passenger launches ply to the southern districts, and even the capital city is quite busy for business. This port does not have any weekly closures and is open every day, as well as being open 24 hours a day.
