I am going to participate in this week’s Steem Atlas contest, and through this post, I would like to share about a very well known and respected institution in my own city Government Graduate College for Women, Sargodha.
This is a government college where students can study from intermediate level up to graduation and even BS programs. It is one of the best government colleges in the city, and the good thing is that it is very affordable. Many girls from middle and lower class families study here as the fees are quite low, but the quality of education is very good.
The college is located inside the city and has a proper gate for entry. The walls outside are painted red, and the name of the college is clearly written on the board above the entrance. There’s a small gate for daily use and a larger gate which is opened when the college ends and many students leave together.
When I visited recently, the college was closed due to summer vacations, but I had to go there to submit some notes to a teacher, so I got the chance to take a look around again and take some pictures for this post.
After entering the gate, there is an open area where students usually stand or sit while waiting for someone to pick them up. There are benches placed for sitting. From here, there is a straight path that leads inside the college.
On the right side, there is a very beautiful garden with green grass and flowers. During break time, many students come here to relax or sit with friends. The college has many plants and even some fruit trees. I saw a guava tree, some pomegranate vines, and a jamun tree. Once I even saw jamun fruits lying on the ground.
As we go further inside, there is the main building on the right side. This building is quite spacious and beautifully constructed. Inside, there are classrooms, staff rooms, and teachers’ offices. Since the college was closed, I couldn’t take pictures from inside. This is also where the admission process and administration work happens.
This is also where the admission process and administration work happens. In this building, I had to go to the economics department where I submitted my notes. In front of this area, there’s a flag stand with the Pakistani flag and another government flag. When there’s wind, both flags wave beautifully.
One thing I really liked was a small room built for offering prayers. Outside it is written that this is a prayer room, and inside, prayer mats are placed. Anyone can go inside and offer namaz peacefully. I really appreciated this facility.
Then, I saw the English department. It’s a white building, and currently, it’s closed like the rest of the college. Since classes are off, there wasn’t any activity going on. When my exams were happening recently, I came here for papers, and that’s when I noticed these things.
On the other side of the campus, there is the science block. This block is painted red and has all the science subject classrooms.
In front of it, there’s a garden with benches and plants where students can sit, and it’s also used by history students since the history department is just nearby.
Though it was closed, I know that this is where all history related classes are held.
There is also a library known as the BS library. It was also closed due to vacations, but usually it stays open, and students can find books of all subjects there. They can issue books and take them home for a few days. It’s very useful during exams or assignments.
Next to the library, I saw the Home Economics department. This department is painted in a mix of yellow and grey and is very neat and well-maintained. There are decorations and plants placed outside and beautiful images stuck to the walls.
Opposite this building is the Fine Arts department. It’s decorated artistically with blue and grey colors and creative designs made by students. All the Fine Arts classes are conducted here, and the walls show their amazing work.
Throughout the college, I noticed cold-water dispensers installed. These are connected with electricity, and students can drink chilled water even on hot days by pressing the tap. This is really helpful, especially during summer.
In front of these departments, there is a large playground. It is mainly used for basketball, and proper basketball courts are built on both sides. Sometimes I’ve seen students playing cricket there too.
Many sports matches happen here, including inter college games. Sports are encouraged along with studies so that students can stay active and refreshed. The students even compete with other colleges from different cities.
Near the ground, there’s the BS Urdu block. This is where Urdu subject classes are held.
Behind it, there is a very clean and beautiful canteen. It’s made with glass windows all around and has a rate list placed inside. They sell items like samosas, naan-tikki, chips, egg burgers, papad, juices, and more.
In front of the canteen, there’s a hut-type sitting area where students can sit in shade and enjoy their food.
On the other side, there is the Education Department. Outside the door, it’s written “Welcome to the Education Department” and decorated with glitter art and small pictures.
Just next to it is the Hazrat Fatima-tuz-Zahra Block, which is the Islamic Studies department. It has white walls inside and red walls outside and is decorated with plants and calligraphy in Urdu and Arabic that says “Welcome” and “Salam”.
Moving ahead, there’s the Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa Block. This block is for Mathematics. The building is painted in cream and white. It is open and spacious, and the classrooms are big and well ventilated. There are ceiling fans and arrangements to keep everything clean and organized.
At the very end of the college is the bus station area. The buses here are for students who live far away from the city. These buses are free and part of the government service. Students who want to use this facility register for it and then they can travel in these buses. In the morning, the buses bring students to college, and after college ends, they drop them at main stops or near their homes.
The college also celebrates special occasions like Independence Day, Defence Day, and other important national events. They arrange programs and small functions where students can participate in debates and different stage activities. It helps them feel proud, enjoy their time, and also improve their confidence. The college tries to keep a good balance between studies and enjoyment.
This was my visit to Government Post Graduate College for Women, Sargodha. I really liked the college. It's clean, affordable, and offers good education. Many girls come from nearby areas to study here. I think this is a great step by the government to support girls’ education. Even in low fees, they provide a good environment, helpful teachers, and the chance for students to make a better future.
