Nothing beats curling up naturally on the sofa the old-fashioned way while it rains outside, just with a cup of tea and the undisturbed pleasure of reading. No phone, no ping of notifications of any kind. Ever read a book? The sort you want to devour in one go because it’s just gripping enough? You stay awake for it, sacrificing sleep. I used to do that as a child, reading under the blankets. Yes, we had woollen blankets back then, not duvets. The books published these days no longer charm me. The odd one might be worth reading, but the truth is, they’re far from interesting and struggle to hold attention. That’s not my fault. It’s the modern writing style. It’s tailored to today’s people, who don’t read, don’t like reading, and can barely focus on what’s written for long. New writers no longer describe a scene exhaustively, nor do they flesh out their characters. Imagination is left to fill in the gaps. Not necessarily a bad thing. When I think back to the trashy romance novels a classmate used to read, full of men with particularly unlikeable personalities, egos the size of your average narcissist, and body hair… well, you’d rather leave some things to the imagination than be subjected to sweaty chest hair paired with a foul temperament that, for some reason, made the female characters swoon.
The best form to read is a book, a story printed on paper. Short stories, long stories, it doesn’t matter. I love children’s tales just as much as those for adults. I read that parents hardly read to their children anymore. Whether this produces children who do read is questionable. I doubt it. I read to all my children, and for years in schools, and they certainly didn’t all turn into bookworms. But you can spot a bookworm early. Always fussing with books, even before they can read, if only to taste-test the paper.

I agree with you. Some children show their interest in reading without following the example or listening to their parents read.
What I've analyzed is that few people read these days. When there are book events, few books are actually sold, but bookstores should innovate. We are in the age of artificial intelligence, robotics, and everything is advancing. Today I heard that the first newspaper created entirely by artificial intelligence was created, and it was very successful.

With us, the bookstores are doing well, unlike the cinemas.
Without any doubt,t AI can generate a newspaper since all the news is made up or translated by shitty translators. I find it a miracle that these things still sell. I don't believe one word that people read the newspapers, at most the clickbait misleading headers.

As always, it was great reading your thoughtful stories. They are a light amidst such a degraded and ambiguous landscape. Love for many things has been lost. It seems human beings are becoming more idiotic. Not everyone is capable of discerning among the chaff stirred up by tornadoes that sweep by, devastating life.

Intenté mantener mi cara en el pliegue mientras te leía.... Gracias por tus palabras "idiota" lo hizo. ¡Siempre sabes cómo hacerme reír! Quién sabe los tornados muestran lo que se barre debajo de la alfombra.

I like it. If I make you smile, the colors of life leap out when we smile.
Imagine a tornado in my homeland, where there are no rugs. Haha. The appreciation is mutual. Keep writing and giving us your good art.

There are universities changing their reading requirement because the students are not used to long form reading. I can't imagine what will happen to all the classics

I find it shameful that universities lower their standards because the students are not able to read. I noticed the same during C19 during the exam periods. All those who "passed" during that year never did the exams. I find it shame and I would never hire someone who "passed" during those years based on the diplomas only.

It's not that they are unable to read; rather, I contend they are too spoiled to read, and society is enabling these ridiculous excuses by accommodating them.

With us there are even discussion to change the language because people are too stupid to lear and write it. I wonder how it can be all other generations could. I also don't see a point in changing it for foreigners. If I livebabroad no country will change the lange into Dutch.

It's ridiculous to even suggest such a thing. Changing the national language feels like a slap in the face to the entire nation. This issue burns me because here we face unofficial challenges regarding the languages we speak. It's as if some people want to turn everything upside down, pushing for unreasonable changes. For instance, there are locals who can't even speak the national language, reportedly claiming it's inferior. These individuals are clearly has something wrong in their mind. Even foreigners often speak it better than some of these locals. In this case, people would only get stupider and crazy with all sorts of unreasonable demands.

That's exactly what's happening, the IQ drops and with that the average knowledge, self-esteem and and and. Many feel today that the government sold the country. We hardly have a celebration day, are not allowed to be proud of our nationality, and there are a billion reasons why it's wrong to.. Strangely enough, it's not wrong if other nations feel that way.
I also wonder if the govs don't do it on purpose. Sooner or later, people fight among themselves, hate is spread, and if that happens, no one sees what the government has planned.
A stupid nation is easier to control than a smart one.
Even Wikipedia says the nonsense that we have many languages, which isn't true. Officially, there are only two Dutch and Fries, and the Fries learn Dutch as well. Next to that, we all have to learn English and at least one other foreign language . The schools teach English, German, and French. If you ask me, that's enough for a small country.
