Japan is experiencing population problems. The birth rate in the land of the rising sun is very low. That's why the government is racking its brains to encourage its citizens to get married. The way they choose is to provide allowances to more couples, as reported by the Japan Times website (23/09/2020).

Couples in Japan who get married starting April 2021 can receive up to 600 thousand yen or the equivalent of 5700538,45 USD to pay rent and other expenses when starting a new life. The money will go to city dwellers who adopt the Japanese newlywed support program.

Requirements, both husband and wife, must be under 40 years old on the registered date of marriage. Then, they have a combined income of less than 5.4 million yen.

The Japanese newlyweds program covers 281 municipalities or 15 percent of all major cities, towns and villages in Japan, which have adopted the program in July 2020. In order to increase the birth rate, the government will cover two-thirds of the wedding costs from fiscal 2021 .

Married couples generally have two children. The lowest birth record was recorded in 2019 with the birth of 865 thousand babies.
