Hi friends,

SLC-S25/W6- Movie Snapshots| Your life on Screen
Watch a movie that involves time travel with a major plot twist.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a great film that I have seen and enjoyed, appreciating feminism. Also, the story of this film has some things in my life and through it, it has led to many choices in my life. I am going to tell you what they are below.
Udhampur Airbase... Amidst the usual mockery and teasing by the air force personnel, the obscene posters of women they have pasted in the room are torn down. The flight commander shocks with a series of dramatic announcements, saying, "All personnel will have to dress properly from now on. From now on, the 'bar' will close at 9 pm."
The reason is that a woman joins the Udhampur Airbase for the first time that day for training. The incidents that unfold around her unfold into scenes about the gender discrimination that a woman faces in a field that men completely dominate.
The film 'Gunjan Saxena', is about the life of Gunjan Saxena, the only female fighter pilot of the Kargil War and the first woman pilot to fly in combat from the Indian Air Force. Before we look at the controversies surrounding the film, let's take a look at how 'Gunjan Saxena' is made as a film.
In an ideal world, anyone can aspire to be anything. Some progressive families try to treat their children equally, regardless of gender. But the world, for the most part, doesn’t agree. When a child is told that she can rise to the top, but finds that the society around her doesn’t think so, she finds herself in a dilemma. She fights back, but she’s not a superwoman – how many times will she have to prove herself even if she can?
Many women will relate to this story. In a society that defines roles for us from the minute we’re born, the struggle to swim against the tide can be tough, exhausting, and endless. And Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl does a masterful job of portraying that without unnecessary tension or heartbreak. The film, based on the real-life story of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena, who was India’s first combat officer in the Indian Air Force.
Another commendable aspect of the film is that even though it is a story about the IAF and ultimately about the Kargil War, it has its side of patriotism, without crossing the line into jingoism. In this aspect, Gunjan Saxena is comparable to Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal's Raazi, which successfully conveys patriotism with soulful music and affect, without going into the ostentatious scenes of nationalism.
Movie: Gunjan Saxena The Kargil Girl (Bollywood-Hindi)

Mention 5 things from the movie that motivated you to keep pushing in life.
1.
Since childhood, Gunjan has been a girl who has been dreaming of flying a plane. Her father supports her and encourages her to do whatever she wants, despite the opposition of her mother and brother. After many struggles, Gunjan joins the Indian Air Force and tries to become a pilot, but the gender discrimination there becomes a villain for her.
2.
As she grows up, there are still many obstacles to her desire to become a pilot—some of them rooted in financial matters, others in red tape, but most of them initially come from her own home, from her brother Anshuman, who has joined the army, and her mother, Keerthi Saxena, who is a woman.
3.
This distinction is maintained even in scenes where male officers exclude her on the pretext of her "safety" as a woman and "national security."
4.
The film also made me want to see more of Gunjan's success. It ends with his first successful rescue mission to retrieve injured soldiers from the Kargil war zone.
5.
Why is this movie special to me? My daughter is currently in pilot training. When she insisted on going for pilot training, I initially refused because piloting is not a normal profession. It is a very risky profession and requires a lot of care and hard work. I thought it would not be suitable for women. Then my daughter showed me this movie. I was initially inspired by this movie. This movie was also one of the reasons why I said okay to let her go for pilot training.
Who was your favorite character? And why?
My favorite character in this film is its heroine, Gunjan Saxena, the Kargil Girl. This character not only celebrates feminism but also shows the challenges women face and how women are not inferior to men in any way. It is emphasized that even in war, they can fight on an equal footing with men.
Janhvi Kapoor, who plays the main character of the story, Gunhan Saxena, fits the role very well. She shows how fit an Air Force officer should be and how charming a young airport service can be.
Mention at least 2 movies you have seen this year that inspired you and why they did.
In the past year, I have watched a lot of movies in theaters and on OTT platforms, as well as on TV, and I liked many of them, but these two movies in particular really touched my heart.
1.Kadisi Vivasaayi
2.Veetila Visesham
While all the people in the village have left agriculture and moved towards the city, there is only one farmer there who remains in the village to pray to the family deity he worships to offer the paddy grown in his field. The story of "Kadaisy Vivasaayi" is about the last farmer of the village. He is preparing the land to the extent of producing one paddy.
At that time, he is told that he killed a peacock. He is very upset and suffers a lot because he does not have knowledge of the court and the legal system. In the end, the question is whether he grew that paddy or not. This story was very interesting and shows the hatred that people had for agriculture. It has been firmly established what the future will be without agriculture.
The film "Veetula Vishesham" highlighted some of the important issues in our society. Its central theme was to overcome the societal opposition that a woman over the age of fifty faces when she gives birth to a child. This problem is rife in countries like India.
