The Cost of A Balanced Diet in Nigeria.

According to NBS (Nigeria Bureau of Statistics), it now cost almost #1200 ( one thousand, two hundred Naira) to eat a balanced diet.

That means an individual will spend over 100,000 Naira to eat well in a month assuming 3 square meals a day. ( No be small thing)

(That sounds like quite a lot, and I'm not even talking about a family.)

Well, let me introduce you to eggs. The amazing nutritional food that can complement your diet.

There is no doubt that eggs are one of the most and nutritious foods in our diet. They are versatile, and offer a wealth of benefits. They can be boiled, fried, or cooked in any other way.

For a long time, eggs have been misunderstood due to their high cholesterol content. This misunderstanding has birthed a lot of arguments for and against eggs. But the truth is, eggs are an excellent source of essential vitamins, minerals, and proteins. In this post, we'll look into the advantages of including boiled and fried eggs in your diet and explore how often you should eat them

Boiled Eggs:

Boiled eggs are an excellent snack or can serve as an addition to any meal, providing a boost of protein, vitamins, and minerals. Research has shown that one boiled egg contains approximately:

  • 6 grams of protein
  • 70 calories
  • 5 grams of fat
  • 0.6 grams of carbohydrates
  • Rich sources of vitamin D, B12, and iron

The protein in boiled eggs helps build and repair muscles, making them essential for those involved in different kinds of sports and fitness exercises ( @ngoenyi the fitness coach can attest to this). Also, they are excellent for individuals looking to manage their weight. Additionally, the antioxidants and vitamins in boiled eggs support healthy vision, immune function, plus brain health. Making it important for both kids and parents.

Fried Eggs:

Fried eggs have a higher calorie count than the boiled eggs. However, they still offer numerous benefits when consumed in moderation. Fried eggs contain:

  • 7 grams of protein
  • 90 calories
  • 7 grams of fat
  • 0.6 grams of carbohydrates
  • Rich sources of vitamin D, B12, and iron
Fried eggs are more bioavailable, and the perform similar functions like the boiled eggs.
Furthermore, the choline in fried eggs supports brain function, metabolism, and liver health.

How Often Should You Eat Eggs?

There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to how often eggs should be consumed. The frequency of egg consumption depends on various factors, including your dietary needs, lifestyle, and health status. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Healthy adults: 1-2 eggs per day
  • Athletes or those who require more protein: 2-3 eggs per day
  • Individuals with high cholesterol or heart health concerns: 2-3 eggs per week

It's important to remember that eggs are just one part of a balanced diet. You should Vary your protein sources, and don't overdo it because excessive egg consumption can lead to an imbalanced diet.

Also it is important to consult a doctor or nutritionist if you have health concerns.
