"Story Behind the Sound"
Choose a traditional instrument, rhythm, or d dance move and tell its origin story. Was it linked to rituals, seasons, work, or celebration? Interview an elder if possible. Pin its geographic origin on SteemAtlas.

It's week 5 and I choose dance move of the Igbos, I'm from IMO state which is part of the Igbo speaking tribe our dance moves in Igbo land are practically the same ranging from the waist dance ,leg dance and stomach dance . I'm particular about the waist dance which the IMO state people where I'm from are known for , it is believed to be spiritual by some individual, according to my uncle who is a Chief in our community he said the dance is associated with water spirits because the IMO are surrounded by Rivers.

How to perform this waist dance is simply by tying a wrapper round the waist and the chest/breast as the case may be then bend down and shake the waist according to the rhythm of the song.

Anywhere someone showed this dancing step people will know the tribe without asking the person.

This dancing move has been in existence since time immoral

This dance has its cultural significance to the igbo tradition which involves showcasing of the ancient kingdom of the Igbo land, the movement of the waist during the dance makes the whole show an eye catchy event bringing back old memories of the Igbo heritage.

This dance move is common in traditional ceremonies like coronation, initiation, traditional marriages, naming, house opening. It's also common during end of the year rituals New year and new yam festivals.

This dance move has passed great massage from generations to generations maintaining the culture of the Igbo people both locally and in desporal .

The most interesting part of this dance move is the unity it brings because whenever the dancer are displaying their styles people from far and near gather to enjoy the performance.

This dance can be learned by young boys and girls who are willing to dance , they practice and teach the new intakes during moonlight when everywhere is dry and calm.

This is the original song on YouTube

Enjoy my dance step and the elderly interview.
I'm inviting @dove11 @eliany @muzack1 to join me.

Hello.,

The wrapper shouldn't be too tight so that it will allow you to freely move your legs and waist. Thank you for the evaluation.

Indeed an old woman can never get old on the dance she knows how to dance. The joy of this challenge is that it took us all back to the root and its a beautiful thing, igbo have one of the best dance and traditional music and its good to see you do it beautifully well.

The waist dance do anyone need skill for that or it just comes to thr igbo natural or are being taught to them as soon as they are born?

Yes sometimes I see young girl dancing without been taught by anyone. While some whose waist are not too flexible learn from the main dancers. You can give it a trial who knows you may do better than me. Hahahaha.

Hahahahahaa
Thats fine.
I try to dance it sometimes just not that good in it.

Woow
Your costume is costuming and it really drove the dance home. Having mummy talk about it put a whole new vibe on the challenge . Good one ma’am.

The song has lasted through generations indeed and it’s beautiful

You indeed listened to the interview, in as much as she expressed herself in our local dialect which is Igbo she passed the massage well. The Igbo traditional dance is our true identity. Thanks dear friend for reading my post.

Just as good music is needed for good dancing, the beauty of dance is enhanced by the culture of dress. The dress suits the dance very well. I admire you.

You igbo tradition dance is really inspiring.... honestly speaking I have watched your dance three times almost and especially your expressions and the way you are moving your waist,,it is basically a jerky movement what I have. Seen and noticed!
It's good to never forget your culture
Keep on enjoying and moving at these rhythms

Good luck

Thanks that's how we dance here in Igbo land.

Hmm that's good to see and experience
