INTRODUCTION

Exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months means feeding your baby only breastmilk for the first 6 months.So give only breastmilk, nothing else,not ever water. Even at very hot weather, please give breastmilk because it will satisfy him or her thirst.then water,other liquids,and foods during the first 6 months can make the baby sick or ill.

ADVANTAGE OF EXCLUSIVELY BREASTFEED DURING THE FIRST SIX (6) MONTHS TO MOTHER AND BABY

• It protects your baby from many illnesses,such as respiratory infections and diarrhea.

*Breastfeeding without having no menses , the mother are protected from another pregnancy.

• It helps to form a strong bond between mother and baby.

• It saves money

• It protects mother's health.

• Exclusive breastfeeding builds strong families and communities.

DANGERS OF MIXED FEEDING DURING THE FIRST SIX (6) MONTHS

Mixed feeding simply means feeding baby with breastmilk and any other food or liquids, it can include infant formula,water, or animal milks.

DISADVANTAGE OF MIXED FEEDING

• Mixed feeding before six (6) months is prone to damage the baby's stomach.

*It increases the chances that baby will suffer from illnesses such as pneumonia, and malnutrition.

• It reduced the protection that exclusive breastfeeding gives.

• It also reduces the benefits that baby gets from the mother's breastmilk.

BREASTFEEDING ON DEMAND,BOTH DAY AND NIGHT

It is good to breastfeed on demand,both day and night because of its benefits.

BENEFITS OF BREASTFEEDING ON DEMAND, BOTH DAY AND NIGHT

• It builds up the mother's breastmilk supply.

• More suckling makes more breastmilk.

EARLY SIGNS THAT SHOWS THAT THE BABY WANT TO BREASTFEED INCLUDE:-

• Restlessness

• Opening mouth and turning head from side to side.

• Putting tongue in and out.

• Suckling on fingers and fists.

• Crying may be a late sign of hunger, or of another problem.

With all this it is good to allow your baby to finish one breast before offering the other. Switching back and forth from one breast to the other prevents the baby from getting the main nutritious "hind milk".Then the "Fore milk" has more water and it satisfies the baby's thirst While the "hind milk" has more fat and satisfies your baby's hunger. Do not make use of feeding bottles,teats, or spouted cups because they are hard to clean and can cause your baby to become.
Please remember always that if your baby is sleepy or ill to wake him or her to offer the breast offen.
