Today, I’d like to share a short description of the Wagon Shop located in one corner of the massive Saidpur Railway Workshop. This shop is situated very close to the workshop’s finishing boundary. Honestly, I’m still a bit confused about how my younger brother and I managed to walk through so many areas and finally reach the Wagon Shop. The roads inside the workshop seem never-ending and a bit patchy in places.

However, I noticed that many of the shops are actually located quite close to each other. At the same time, some shops are spread out and take up a lot of space, especially those dealing with heavy machinery, railway coaches, and wagons. These workshops need large open areas to store equipment and carry out work, which is why they’re positioned farther apart from each other.

The Wagon Shop is responsible for various important tasks such as repairing wagons, cutting and pressing metal plates, fixing damaged parts, and installing wagon wheels. When I visited, I saw many wagons in different stages of repair around the shop. Some were actively being worked on, while others had already been repaired and were parked nearby. A few fully repaired wagons were placed a bit farther away, waiting to be released and returned to service.

Machine DP-09, year of construction 1929, still operational. It's a plate press machine

I saw a few wagons parked in front of the Wagon Shop and others inside, being repaired. What amazed me most was seeing two old machines from the British period, two of them dated back to 1929. I was honestly surprised how those machines are still working after so many years. It felt like I was witnessing a living piece of history. Machine PP-4 and Machine DP-09 were both built in 1929. I was amazed to see how nicely they were polished and painted and it didn’t even feel like they were that old. I learned that PP-4 is used for cutting wagon plates, and DP-09 is a plate press machine.

Except for some machines and wagons, I don’t remember much from the main working area of the wagon shop. But when I reached the far end, I noticed some beautiful wheels that might be installed on wagons later. As I exited through the back, I was surprised to see that even the rear side had an eye-catching entrance and exit and it felt like a hidden spot I hadn’t expected.

There was also a wagon located next to the back entrance of the workshop

This place is located behind the workshop. It's also used to keep wagons

At the back of the wagon shop, I saw many wagons parked, probably waiting for repair. It was a surprisingly vast space, and one of the nearby employees mentioned that this area is often used for storing wagons. Visiting the wagon shop was a pleasant experience for me.

Conclusion

The most exciting part of my visit was exploring the old machines from the British period that are still working now. There wasn’t too much to explore, so the visit was brief but I enjoyed it. I didn’t have to put in much effort to notice the small details, and for this reason my visit was even more enjoyable.

I am inviting @hamzayousafzai, @vivigibelis & @ae-arfin to take part in the contest.
