Nature wraps the village in a calming green embrace |
In this publication, I would like to highlight one of my favorite places: my mother's riverside village. The name of this village is Lautara Village. This village holds a special place in my heart and is filled with beautiful memories. I’ve known it since childhood, as we used to visit my maternal uncle’s home there once a year or sometimes every few years.
 |
Every corner of this village brought peace to my heart |
 |

What makes this village even more memorable is the warmth of its people. The villagers are incredibly hospitable, and I’ve never forgotten the love and kindness they’ve shown me every time I’ve visited. My relatives are always happy to see me, and their smiles make me feel like I truly belong there.

You can reach the village by modern vehicles like cars, bike etc, but only during the dry season. In the rainy season, things change. The village roads become muddy and slippery, so you must park your car outside the village, usually in Daulatpur Upazila, which is about 10-15 minutes away. From there, I take a motor vehicle to get closer to the river, and then switch to a battery-powered vehicle or rickshaw to reach my uncle’s home.

Villagers build homes safely away from the river’s edge |
This village has brought back so many memories for me. I still remember those wonderful childhood days, walking along the narrow paths that led to the river, just to swim and enjoy the cool water. Those moments were simple, yet unforgettable.

That same mango tree, now glowing under sunset |
There’s a huge mango tree standing right in the middle of my uncle’s land. Its presence completely transforms the scenery making the entire area feel more peaceful and alive. Because it's located at the center of the land, it naturally draws attention and looks truly unique. The tree changes with the seasons, and each version of it whether full of green leaves, blossoms, or hanging mangoes feels incredible in its own way.
Horse carts remain the trusted ride for villagers

The street vendors, the men selling ice cream or toys to children are also a memorable part of my childhood in the village. These simple scenes hold a special place in my heart, connecting me deeply to the village life. Horse carts are still common here in this riverside village and play an important role in daily life. They serve as a key means of transportation for the villagers, carrying goods and people alike. Many locals even raise horses to meet their everyday needs.

A simple installation by the river adds to the charm |
Summer, rain, or winter, the village looks beautiful in every season. The nights here have their own special charm too. Although I was a little scared to walk the village streets after dark, because it still feels quite dim even though the village has electricity. There’s something peaceful about those quiet evenings. Passing by the bamboo groves could be a bit haunted, but that mix of slight fear and calmness is just part of the joyful experience of village life.

This village holds a very special place in my heart, and I love coming back again and again. The hospitality of my relatives and the beauty of the river always draw me back. I cherish taking showers in the village river and walking along its peaceful banks. Every time I visit, my uncle kindly collects fresh green coconuts from his coconut plants for me. It’s those simple, thoughtful moments that make the village feel like home.

The lifestyle of the village people living around the river also fascinates me. Sometimes they cross the river by boat, and sometimes even by foot when the water is shallow. Fishing is a common activity here, though I find it quite challenging because of the strong current. But the villagers are skilled, they can catch fish even in these difficult conditions with ease. Their connection to the river is deep, and it’s inspiring to see how naturally they adapt to its changing nature.

Sunset bathes the village in warm golden light. The whole village glows as the sun gently says goodbye |
There may not be many modern entertainment facilities in the village, but for me, I’ve found a different kind of joy in the simple and natural rhythm of village life. These little moments surrounded by nature, calm, and kindness feel truly refreshing. While life in town often feels robotic and monotonous, the village offers a peaceful contrast. It reminds me to slow down and appreciate the beauty in everyday things. That’s why Lautara Village has become one of my favorite places, it offers a kind of happiness that modern life often forgets.
I am inviting @pea07, @memamun & @mohammadfaisal to take part in the contest.
