Entertainment Blog #347 | Untamed [2025] : Killings in the Wild...

The premises of most TV series are stuck in a town or a high-tech environment. But still, I would prefer a greener environment to take place in the action of a story. If feels refreshing and pleasing to the eye. And it's been quite some time since the last series I've watched, which was filmed in such an environment.

The wait ended with the release of #Netflix's newest #psychological #thriller #series, "Untamed". It had been hyped for quite some time, and I instantly had doubts whether it would deliver or not. The series stars Eric Bana, Lily Santiago, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Sam Neill as main characters. The first bummer is it's just 6 episodes.

The story goes around National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) special agent Kyle Turner who works at Yosemite National Park. He has suffered for a lifetime. He was married to Jill and had a son, Caleb. Kyle used to play with her son in the park, so he is quite familiar with the place. But one day, Caleb disappeared, and after 2 days, Kyle found his lifeless body in the water.

With the impact of that incident, Kyle became an alcoholic. With Kyle's behavior and the loss of the son, Jill couldn't handle it anymore, so she divorced him and later settled with Scott, who is a dentist. Shortly after Caleb's death, a man named Sean Sanderson was killed at the park, and it was Kyle who investigated the case. But he was an alcoholic back then. No clues were found to solve the case, so it went under the rug.

Before all that, in 2012, there was a missing girl case, which also haunted Kyle Turner from the beginning, as she was just a small kid. Her father was abusive after the death of her mother. His brother didn't care for her. This case also went unsolved. But Kyle strongly believed it was her father. With all going on, the society responded, and he was beaten to death.

Years after all this drama, Yosemite National Park was kinda in peace, got wrapped up in a dark cloud again. While two hikers were climbing El Capitan, suddenly a body of a dead girl fell from the top and got strangled in their cables. They were lucky to survive that situation. Also, the dead girl was lucky as her body was saved, so it could be investigated.

The investigation was led by Kyle Turner, and he doesn't like to join other coworkers on his cases. And it was a good day for Naya Vasquez, a rookie National Park Service ranger who moved to Yosemite from Los Angeles to start the journey at the park with a murder case. Some evidences were found on the scene, but the strangest thing is, her DNA was not in the system. So she's a Jane Doe.

But Naya didn't give up on finding the identity of Jane Doe, and her efforts didn't go in vain. She discovered the identity of Jane Doe, and you better believe the things are gonna be messy, especially for Kyle Turner.

The series is nicely intertwined with the subplots, but still is kinda predictable. And that was criticized by viewers. But I enjoyed the series as the vibe of the series took me on a calm path, paving the way to watch all the episodes in one day..
