Agricultural economics is a major branch of economics that covers the production, distribution and consumption of agricultural goods and services. Agricultural business is the mainstay of most economies, particularly those who operate in Third World countries such as Indonesia. Another important function of agricultural economics is to contribute to national food security and sociopolitical stability of less developed areas.

Knowledge of agricultural economics allows for reasonable decisions to keep the income of sustainable agriculture grow.

Concerns in Agrarian Economics and Remedial Steps

One of the greatest economic problems in Agriculture is an irregular income from farm due to the wide variation in the prices of agricultural commodities. Weather still impacts yield. Modern technology, capital and markets are scarce. Expenditure on vocational training, further technology, and micro finance have the potential to increase the efficiency and scale of the farmer. Digitization allows farmers to more efficiently manage land and weather, and gain access to markets. Immediate action is needed to keep agricultural land preserved by zoning laws that inhibit urban sprawl.

With the whole machine running smoothly, there is not only life in the agricultural economy but growth to sustainable development. This campaign only works when everyone from the farmers to the government and academia to the corporate sector works together for a productive, equitable, and sustainable agriculture system.
