Greetings, dear friends, how are you all? I hope you all are doing fine and enjoying your day. I wish for all of you good health, wealth and a prosperous time ahead. Today I am here to share with you a bad experience which I replaced with a sense of joy and gratitude. I hope you all will get time to read and also share your thoughts.
Tuesday, July 8th, 2025, was supposed to be a bad day for me. My elder brother, Mr. Aniefiok Douglas, the Principal General at Comprehensive High School, Odoro Atan in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area had arranged a meeting with Mr. Gideon Ekefre, Board Member 1 at the Ministry of Education, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo - Nigeria.
The purpose was to facilitate employment for me in the ministry. I had never met Mr. Ekefre before, and my brother had already discussed my visit with him. By 8 am, I was in Mr. Ekefre's office, waiting patiently. I called my brother to inform him that I had arrived. He then called Mr. Ekefre, who said he would be in the office by 10 am. I waited calmly, I didn't snap pictures, observing the security cameras and noting that, in some organizations, composure and patience are considered important criteria for employment.
At 11:08 am, Mr. Ekefre arrived, he started attending to visitors. His Personal Assistant (PA) escorted me to his office. Mr. Ekefre asked us to introduce ourselves one after the other. When it was my turn, I introduced myself, and he asked where my brother was. I explained that I was alone, and to my surprise, he started shouting at me.
He exclaimed that my brother was "very stupid" for sending me alone and that I should leave his office immediately. I tried to explain that I was innocent, but my words fell on deaf ears.
The distance from Ikot Abasi Local Government Area where my brother was to Uyo is 73.5km. My brother called Mr. Ekefre, explaining that he was close by, but Mr. Ekefre shouted at him too, telling him to return home and that he would no longer facilitate employment for me.
Friends, that was how I left Mr. Gideon Ekefre's office, feeling ashamed and embarrassed. To make matters worse, I had closed my printing shop for the day, only to be disgraced in front of others. But I was determined not to let this experience ruin my day.
I decided to visit Tropicana Mall to take my mind off the events of the morning.
Tropicana Mall is located in the heart of the city of Uyo, along along Udoma Udo Udoma way. In that shopping mall, there were many stairs and many places. On each platform, one type of item was sold. Where mobile phones were sold, only mobiles were sold on that platform. Where clothes were sold, there were clothes, and where food was available, only food was sold.
As I walked around the mall, I began to feel a sense of relief wash over me. My dear steemians, it is realistic that you couldn't control how others behaved, but you could control how you respond to difficult situations.
I spent the rest of the day at the mall, enjoying the air-conditioned comfort, window shopping, and people-watching. I even treated myself to a nice lunch and dessert.
At the end of the day, my bad mood was lifted, replaced by a sense of joy and gratitude. I turned what was supposed to be a bad day into a joyful one. I learned that sometimes, life throws us curveballs, but its up to us to decide how we respond. We can choose to let difficult experiences define us, or we can rise above them and find the silver lining.
Thank you for going through my post. Do have a great time ahead.
Be positive. I believe that something great you'll come your way
