Clarke Quay is one of Singapore's attractions. It is a historical riverside quay upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River and Boat Quay. It is an iconic conserved historical landmark. Together with Boat Quay and Robertson Quay, it forms part of the Singapore River precinct.
From the early 1800s, Clarke Quay served as a dock for the loading and unloading of cargoes for the warehouses and commercial houses situated along the Singapore River. Work on transforming the place into a commercial and entertainment hub began in the 1980s through the 1990s. In 1989, the area was gazetted as a heritage conservation district. At present, five blocks of restored warehouses house various restaurants and nightclubs.
Beyond its historical charm, Clarke Quay is a dynamic hub for entertainment, dining and nightlife. “Lined with an array of restaurants, bars, and shops, it offers a lively atmosphere, making it a popular destination for both locals and visitors seeking a blend of Singapore's heritage and contemporary allure”. – Trip Advisor
The best time to go to Clarke Quay is during the evening hours. You can enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of the restaurants, watch the lights come on, and maybe take a leisurely stroll along the quay to soak in the atmosphere. The buildings, both new and some colonial, and the trendy restaurants make a postcard-perfect scene. And if you are still in the mood, you can party the night away at one of the many clubs in Clarke Quay.
Clarke Quay is also one of the boarding points for river cruises and river taxis.
It was early evening and the lights were just coming on.
