# Churches of Iceland - A very unusual one ###### My Travel Photography I am continuing my journey around Iceland and visiting the beautiful Icelandic churches. First, I don't know if I have given a disclaimer about religion and my beliefs: these posts are absolutely not a reflection of my beliefs, religious understandings and are not intended to popularize any religion. I am a photographer and traveler, I photograph interesting, beautiful and unusual scenes, and above all I try to take you all to the places I have visited. Now that I've cleared that up, I can get back to the churches of Iceland. Apart from the usual, beautiful red and white churches, Iceland can boast some very interesting architectural solutions. It was designed by the Icelandic architect Maggi Jónsson and completed in 1993. ![DSC07406-Pano.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/dejan.vuckovic/245HkwXiV4vWzxPcxLuEFmzNTmxbbbbxd6Q7TQov4JzSUCszVtdwEGDScxranbHeFmcW7.jpg) Maggi says about his design that it resembles a volcanic crater, while the sides of the crater have the characteristic pattern of balsa pillars that are a protective feature of the Icelandic landscape.
