For the first time since 1999, the software giant surpassed the 500-billion-dollar barrier on Wall Street. Its turnover and quarterly earnings managed to exceed analysts' initial expectations and the stock market jumped.

After the Windows maker's top-five for the first time in 17 years worth $ 60, Microsoft has re-recorded another record just a few months later: its shares have surpassed the $ 65 mark.

The triggers of such a sharp rise were the latest quarterly results of the Redmond company, which dazzled analysts.

The main driver of Microsoft's growth in the fourth and last quarter of the year was the Intelligent Cloud division, which reported revenue of $ 6.9 billion to Satya Nadella, up 8 percent from the fourth quarter. 2015. Azure, Microsoft's flagship in the cloud and a direct rival to Amazon's AWS service, jumped 93 percent in the fourth quarter.

On the other hand, and in the chapter on profits, Microsoft obtained between October and December 2016 a net profit of $ 5.2 billion. Gross profit grew 9% to $ 6.5 billion, translating to earnings of $ 0.83 per share. Investors had a priori gross profit of just $ 0.79 per share.
