Siamo agli sgoccioli: l’inverno sta per finire e la primavera è alle porte (almeno cosi dice il calendario). Ho scorto i primi germogli sui mandorli e qualche fiore sui ciliegi mentre le giornate allungano sempre di più. I merli già ci allietano con il loro canto vivace e qualche rara rondine volteggia all'inbrunire . Che bello, amo questa metamorfosi della natura che si ripete puntualmente sulla nostra penisola ogni anno tra la fine di marzo e l’inizio di aprile. ![untitled-8491.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPDFwn3J6PCRsgf8roDDGnUMqDxVRVRjNTbjAbWKr9VpP/untitled-8491.jpg)*Winter and summer views of Valpolicella in Italy* Il grigio delle giornate autunno-invernali l’ho sempre mal sopportato, mi pare un peso tedioso e cupo e so di non essere l’unico che vive la stagione fredda in questo modo. Novembre, soprattutto, ogni anno puntualmente mi consegna sconforto ed un pò di inquietudine con le sue giornate buie, corte ed umide. Già, ai piedi delle prealpi venete l'autunno porta le prime nebbia, il primi freddi, il giorno “dei morti” e le nuvole, soprattutto le nuvole che in questo periodo si assestano nel cielo per obliterare il sole per mesi interi senza interruzione (o quasi). Che tristezza, che malinconia, che palle! Dovrebbe essere novembre il mese delle ferie per chi è meteoropatico come me. Meglio andare al caldo, ovunque esso sia anziché vivere il dramma delle foglie che cadono e l'arrivo di paesaggi spogli e all'apparenza aridi. Qualche anno fa trascorsi circa quindici mesi in Borneo per motivi di lavoro. “Mi mancheranno mai le stagioni?” mi domandoai all’epoca. “Vedi…”, mi dissero poco prima che partissi, “…le stagioni servono al corpo per regolarsi, come un ciclo di rinnovo, è certo che ne sentirai la mancanza e forse ne risentirai, un un modo o nell'altro”. “Davvero?”, risposi con perplessità. ![view with road-1.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmTPfRqqmrgdPY5aimsuBmuYvw53UWUgmfeHKhiNPrntn5/view%20with%20road-1.jpg)*Winter and summer views of Valpolicella in Italy* Quante baggianate! In certe regioni del mondo è estate tutto l’anno e vi assicuro che è una cosa eccezionale. Stare su una spiaggia calda per halloween è una cura straordinaria contro la malinconia tardo autunnale. Indossare maniche corte durante i giorni della merla ancor di più per quella invernale! C'e da domandarsi (con ironia) se l'effetto serra ed il riscaldamento globale imporranno giornate invernali senza grigiume. Se cosi fosse, non posso fare a meno di pensare che forse non tutti i mali vengono per nuocere. 😜

It’s that particular time of the year here in the northern hemisphere in which winter gradually edges away and to spring nudges it's way in. I’ve already noticed the first shy buds on the cherry trees and some pink blossom on the almond trees, as well. The sun’s rays are noticeably warmer now, the days getting longer and I’ve been surprised by the lively song of the first courting blackbirds. It’s amazing, I love the way nature wakes up between the end of March and the beginning of April here in Italy. It’s an explosion of colour, light and scents to behold. The grey, cold days of winter are on their way out, and not a moment too soon in my opinion either. I’ve always found autumn and winter days a little sad and sometimes depressing, definitely hard to get used to. At the foothills of the Southern Alps once the month of November arrives, all there is to look forward to is fog, cold temperatures, endless rain and the onset of grey clouds that take over the sky and almost permanently hide the the sun from everyone's sight for months on end. It’s sad, annoying and ultimately boring. November to me should be the perfect to get away on vacation if possible. I find that it's best to escape the mists, the falling leaves and the dull, semi arid looking, gloomy landscapes that the end of fall imposes on us all. A few years ago I was sent to Borneo by my company to work on a project for just over fifteen months. Borneo is hot the whole year round, it’s always summer out there and I remember asking myself whether I might miss the four seasons I was used to at home. ![rows and cypress-1.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmbKWLHbzHUjomqjHkngi7d5JSvWCDNgC47xWmJpKvCUnD/rows%20and%20cypress-1.jpg)*Winter and summer views of Valpolicella in Italy* “You need to take care of yourself. Seasons are important for your health and you’ll miss them for sure”, I was told. “Really?” I replied, with disbelief. Of course it was just nonsense. There’s something truly magical about being on hot beach in November and even more so about being able to just wear shorts and a t-shirt in the middle of January while back at home the thermometer shows temperatures well below zero. Do they mean no grey clouds and misty winter days? I f this is the case the perhaps (with all the irony in the world), perhaps it’s not all doom and gloom ahead of us…..
