Well, very first time when I heard this word “Gold” was in my childhood probably when I was 6 year and I remember my father was talking about his tooth and needed to have a crown to protect a tooth that was treated. The discussion of my parents I remember because it was about type of crown. Before I go ahead I wanted to tell you that it was sometimes in 80’s and in Kazakhstan and that time there was no ceramic or any other fancy crown, that time it was popular to have golden crown and of course, due to the characteristic of metal it also had something aseptic. Anyway, the whole discussion was due to price, it was expensive but it was needed. I was sitting at table and listening the conversation, during this time in my imagination it was not a typical tooth crown but I had a picture of a crown that kings have on the head. That is why I was puzzled how my father is going to eat if he has a crown on a tooth. But of course, everything became clear when then later on my father had a crown and it was looking like a shape of normal tooth but just beautiful golden material.
The other story about golden brooch, actually that happen with my grandmother, she had many different rings, necklaces and brooch some from just simple metal other from precious metal. Slowly she completely lost idea about what is what, because as children we loved to look through everywhere and use some of them to place. So found a brooch that had golden colour and were pinning it on the blanket around our shoulder like a cape. I remember few years later, she decided to give away some of her old jewellery and just took that I called it “cape holder” to the shop where they bought gold for money. She just then showed the brooch as there was no stamp of gold. When the Owner of shop tested that brooch he said that it was real gold but made in Turkey and handmade that is why there is no stamp but he gave quite good money for that. When my grandma found that she almost had a shock as we, children were playing with such expensive “toy”, she was glad that it was not lost.
Later on when I was a teenager I was in love with golden jewellery, of course, as a girl I loved to have beautiful golden ear rings and necklace. I remember speaking to my mother about what I wanted to my birthday, of course, my mother was not really happy with that. She told me that it is too expensive and I need to grow up then would be better time. Instead of my favourite metal, I received “Silver”. Actually since then I love silver more than gold.

Your story reminded me of some acts of vandalism that used to occur at the cemetery in the city where I live. Several young men with bad habits would supervise funerals and then visit the graves at night. The intention was to search the deceased for gold teeth or anything else of value to steal. Cemetery officials had to strengthen security back then; today, families no longer leave anything of value for the deceased.
When someone had a gold tooth, they were mistaken for someone wealthy, ignoring the fact that it was one of the few options available to improve dental health.

Yes, you are absolutely right I remember such stories too and it was hte time when my father was alive and we heard from other families that htey noticed that they fmaily members who died were found to have their golden crowns missing. That is horrible and a sign of greed.

Yes, my friend @stef1, gold teeth used to be very common. They're not as common now, not only because of the cost of the material, but also because that type of material is no longer used for teeth due to the bacterial problems it causes. Regarding the gold clasp, children never know the value of the things they play with. I loved your stories about gold. Thanks for sharing these anecdotes.

Yes, you are right, I remember there were many people with golden teeth before, but nowadays people do not like them but prefer white teeth. I actually also like white to golden, although as a child I prefered to have golden too :)

Hi @stef1, well, children's creativity and imagination are incredible and limitless. A crown like a king's on a tooth might be laughable for an adult to even think about, but you can see it was a very valid concern as a child, and worth sharing.
It's so good not to have thrown away that expensive brooch, and that it later served other purposes.
Many people also prefer silver to gold, and I assume it's not because of price but because they prefer silver to gold, a matter of taste. But in terms of value and cost, gold obviously trumps silver.

En mi familia tener oro con historia familiar eso lo denominamos "reliquias". Por lo tanto poseer una reliquia es tener en la mano un pedazo de historia familiar.
Antes de casarme, vendí unos zarcillos que me regaló mi abuela. Ella me los dió para que yo los intercambiará por dinero. Así lo hice y logré comprar muchos utensilios de cocina cuando me iba a casar. Fue muy útil tener esa tipo de ayuda monetaria de su parte.

Yes, often there are some pieces that are kept in family, I fully understand your grandmother that often if there is a situation that we need something but have not enought money then such family hairloom help, even though we loose htem but we use them for our need and that is okay.

I remember the first time I saw my grandmother with a gold tooth, it really caught my attention. It was certainly common for teeth to be made of gold back then. It was funny because it raised a lot of questions in children when they saw those teeth.

Hi friend, sometimes because we're kids, we don't understand the meaning of things, but then you realized. I used to think the same thing with a neighbor. He had gold teeth, and I told him he didn't brush his teeth, hahaha. Later, I realized they were teeth, but he didn't say gold, but yellow, hahaha.
