Genes can influence some individual's susceptibility to some diseases, and some family members may inherit these genes. shared environmental factors and lifestyle choices can add to the clustering of diseases within families. For example, families with a history of diabetes can have a higher likelihood of adopting unhealthy eating habits or even engaging in sedentary behaviors, which can add higher risk of developing the disease.

### How do genes decide things like hair color, eye color, or even how tall you'll be?

All these traits are influenced by different genes, each with different variants or even alleles. Their combination of alleles an individual got it from their parents determines their specific trait. For example, hair color is affected by the interaction of genes responsible for producing the pigment melanin. The quantity and distribution of melanin in the hair follicles determine an individual's hair color. Similarly, eye color is determined by the distribution of melanin in the iris, and even height is influenced by some genes controlling the growth and development.

By knowing an individual's DNA, healthcare professionals can gives recommendations for disease prevention, early detection, and even treatment.
