Hello my dear Steemians,
Over last couple of days I am hearing that there is a new scandal about contamination of water reservoirs throughout UK, it is not only our sweet water in rivers, lakes but also North sea is used by water companies to discharge sewage without proper cleaning. The amount of contamination is so high that in some places it is forbidden to swim in such water, also for parents with young children it is not allowed to play on beach due to contact with dirty water.
When I read that article I was completely shocked because living in 21th century I thought that everything is well organised from point of view of hygiene and health protection. We know that it is one of the important climate protection point to keep the sewage away from water sources. We used water everywhere in our household like washing hands, cooking, for kids playing in water, swimming. We also remember that when it is too hot then such dirty water can be real source of serious infection, can make people very ill and require hospital treatment.
At least now because of this issue it came up to public and the government accepted that it is a case and the fact that it happened. It is of course, very bad publicity for country, government and people here. In my opinion, it is not easy to admit and accept the failure openly and hopefully to do now everything in order to solve the problem.
Now to solve the problem, it will be required to a lot of finance, likely new procedures to clear water and new equipment that water companies need to buy and install before discharging the water into water reservoirs.
For ordinary people we should try not to soil water with anything ourselves. Many people now buying bottled water from shops and tap water is always boiled before use. I do not know how bad is the quality of our water but we need to be more careful about that and teach our children too both in school and in our families to be cautious with water.
