**My Story**

In October, I was invited to participate in a skill acquisition programme for Nigerian youths. We had a variety of skills to choose from, starting from soap making to agriculture. Every attendee was expected to attend the programme for a period of one month. We had young people troop in from far and wide to enjoy this free one-month skill acquisition programme. The organisers promised to reward beneficiaries with stipends. She will be the first to ask and respond to questions in class. When tasks were assigned, her team always came top, especially if she was in charge. At the end of two weeks, we didn't receive anything from the organisers. Many people started grumbling. Others started staying away. But this girl acted like everything was alright. She participated actively in every class. After the one-month training, the organisers sent every student their stipends. It was a small but reasonable sum and they paid in two installments. Everyone was happy. She narrated how she invested the stipends given and how she has made good yields in six months. According to her, the business might not be fetching her millions yet, but she is grateful that she invested the little money she received.

**My Lessons**

Her story brought a deep reawakening to my spirit. It made me realise that what distinguishes great people from others is their **grit**. Money makes one famous, but your ability to stay resilient, particularly when faced with challenges is what makes you great. So many people quit when things become rocky. They act like the man who scoffed at the one talent he received. “Huh! This is too small”. Then he goes ahead to bury that one talent because he felt it was insignificant. Sometimes, others wait for "the perfect time" to start. But does the perfect time ever come? The wise ones receive these talents, reinvest it and before you say “Jack Robinson”, they are making it big and dining with the big girls. I have learnt my lessons, friends.
