Hobby pots are still found in villages in various parts of Bengal. It is mainly a rural industry of Veranda region. This pot is more common in Bangladesh than in West Bengal.

Still people of rural Bengal use earthen pots for various daily tasks. However, there is a difference between hobby pots and clay pots used for general household work. Bengalis love to revel in festivals throughout the year. Hobby pots are used in various festivals of the year. On weddings and other social occasions, hobby pots filled with sweets or pies are sent as gifts to relatives. - - - - - -

*Fruits, sweetmeats, fish etc. are given to the pregnant women in charkha pots. Also, this pot is used in various rituals such as birthday, New Year, New Year and different regions. Villagers hang delicious food in colorful pots with jute ropes. Even clothes and other items are hung in these colorful pots. It is called hobby pot because it is popular in hobby work. Hobby pots in different regions of Bengal have different design features. The pots are painted in many different colors. Earlier colors and glues were collected from nature to draw designs on hobby pots. Now it is also painted with chemical dyes.The earthen vessels are decorated with designs of elephants, horses, flowers, birds, fish and plants. There are many varieties of hobby pots according to ritual differences. For example - Mangal Handi, Garbha Handi, Iburo Handi, Sapude Handi, Flower Handi, Awakening Handi.
