Introduction

**Shadow in a bottle**

| |- *On a worn out sofa throne rests a man, A bowl of brown intoxicating liquid, his only companion. His health declines and yet the bottles remains, A shadowy companion, giving his soul to pain.* *The years run, and his body begins to fail, His Kidney, liver and hearts are so frail. Bouts of coughs a now regular feature, rocks his bony frame Yet still he clings to the bottle, his deadly support.* *Four decades old, ending with regrets A future once bright, now lost. A would-be doctor, veered of course, In the secret corners of his dorm corridors.* *Thrilling experience at first, but now an inescapable snare Impossible to quit, like chopping down an Iroko with a razor blade. Deeper and deeper he is lost in a sea of pain. His loved ones only sees a lost cause beyond redemption.* *Untidy and unclean, his stench fills the air, Now a shadow of his former self, a being beyond repair. But look beyond the bottle, peer inside, There, a soul trapped, crying out for a chance to hide.* *Dear kids, dear parents, a cautionary tale, Flee the lusts of addiction, it is a destructive gale. Stay sober, eat well, live your life to the fullest For sorrows, aging and regrets are the lot of addictions*. _{*Written by @uduak3287*}

**Conclusion**

| |- The poem here describes fourty year old man who is filled with regrets as a result of his addiction to alchol. His dreams, aspirations and even loved ones have been affected by this act. Note the role his peers played in stanza 3 of the poem. This is a reminder for us to chose our friends wisely.
