Introduction

1UP is an open-source\nhivemind curation system for communities with equal votes. It directs upvotes\nto the highest voted posts and optimizes community trailing for higher curation\nrewards. 1UP will use its own Smart Media Token (SMT) entirely vor voting and distribute that to a large degree\nvia airdrops and bounties to the Steem community. 1UP is aiming to become a\ndecentralized managed platform without any company ownership.

The founder of 1UP is\n@flauwy, creator of the animated Steemy videos and the @smartbee. The main\ndeveloper is @stoodkev, witness and creator of the popular @steem-plus browser\nextension.

What Solves 1UP?

\nProblem 1: Votes Are Not Equal

The Steem\nblockchain is designed to give larger Steem Power holders equally larger upvote\npower. This leads to the majority of upvotes being basically worthless and without\nany further effect to help the upvoted author.

Problem 2: Low Curation Rewards

Communities\nand curation services often use trails to upvote with a big community account\nand then send the trailers afterwards. This creates unfavorable curation\nrewards for the trailers and makes trailing often a bad decision in terms of\nreturns.

Problem 3: Finding Good Content Is Hard

Steemit is\nnot making it easy to find good content. Promotion services boost any post to\nthe hot and trending page while quality content has often no chance to be\ndiscovered if the author is new and unexperienced.

Problem 4: Problematic Steem Distribution

The\ndistribution of Steem is skewed and finding support for a project or community\nis more and more difficult as the demand is rising and much of the Steem Power\nin the hand of a few. Supporting a community or project is also often traded by\nusers for selling their votes for better returns which lowers the available\nSteem Power for quality content.

Solution:\nThe 1UP Smart Media Token (UP Token)

Users will\nfind the filtered content from all participating communities sorted by their\n1UPs which creates a totally new way to discover quality content via hivemind\ncuration. Every user has ten daily 1UPs to give to any post in any community the\nlike. All upvotes done via 1UP will be equal and split among different\ncommunities. The daily ten highest upvoted posts in each eligible community\nwill be upvoted by a smart community trail that puts the biggest votes to the\nend and frontruns the final @steem-1UP account upvote. This will increase the\ncuration rewards for the community supporters and makes it more profitable to\ncurate in general.

The Smart\nMedia Token distribution will favor the Steem community by using the new User\nAuthority (UA) for our planned airdrop. This will put much more UP tokens in\nthe hands of the average Steemians compared to a 1:1 Steem Power airdrop. The\nlarge community bounty system will allow community accounts to acquire\nsubstantial amounts of 1UP to continuously support their best members with\nlarge 1UP-votes. And individual users can also earn out of the large user\nbounty system by delegating, promoting and supporting. As the entire 1UP system\nwill be only used for curating and not create any content of its own, the entire\nreward pool of the SMT will be controlled by the 1UP application and directed\nby the 1UP-voters.

\n \n Functionality

Communities & Trailing

Communities\nare usually connected with a tag from the Steem blockchain. They can also be\nmade entirely via black and whitelists of users. And when the hivemind protocol\nfrom Steemit will be implemented on the blockchain we will potentially base the\n1UP communities on that foundation.

All users\ncan select one or several communities for the smart 1UP frontrunning with their\nown voting power. They can select how much of the daily available power shall\nbe used and let 1UP do the rest. This will be one of the most important\nfeatures of 1UP and supported by features like statistics for curation hunters.\nWe want to make 1UP a great tool for improving curation rewards.

Each\ncommunity gets its own community page with the current 1UP ranking list and a\ntimer that counts down every 2.4 hours. At the end of the timer the highest\npost will be upvoted by the smart 1UP community trail and finally by an upvote\nfrom the @steem-1up account itself. Posts will be sortable by other filters as\nwell. The best recent and all-time-high posts will also be easy to find to\nfurther improve their visibility.

Each new\ncommunity will begin on level zero without any upvotes from the @steem-1up\naccount. They can level up through upvotes within their community with 1UPs.\nMore about this functionality in our planned Utopian/Fundition blog series\nsoon. To be able to upvote communities right from the start we will upgrade ten\npre-selected communities right from the start.

1UP-Voters

To find out\nwho is eligible for giving 1UPs to other people’s post we will implement the\nAPI from User Authority (UA) that is also being used for the @steem-ua upvoter.\nWith that new alternative reputation score we can counter the abuse of a\n1-account-1-vote systems and via a hivemind algorithm of trust. We will use a\ncertain minimum threshold of UA to define the entry level for 1UP users.

Each user\ngets exactly ten 1UPs every day. They can spend them in any community on any\npost of their choice. It is up to them to decide whether they split their 1UPs\nupon several communities or put them all into one (not more than one per author\nthough). If they find posts that others like as well and even win a 1UP round\nthen all upvoters get a certain Quality Score. The highest Quality Scores of\nthe day will be rewarded with extra upvotes from 1UP (bounties during the\nPre-SMT phase), giving an incentive to curate and find new quality content.

The 1UP Token

For\na perfect control over the curation we will create the UP token to have a\nSteem-based economy in which we will control to reward pool entirely through\nproof-of-hivemind. The UP economy will be entirely based on upvoting content on\nSteem and SMT projects and not feature any own content. To become a fully\nfunctional voting platform we will start the pre-SMT phase with an attractive\nbounty system to keep the interest and support high.

The goal of 1UP is to create\nsomething like a staking coin for Steemians that constantly grows their stake\nwhile supporting the Steem communities of your choice. The entire distribution\nwill aim to empower Steemians and communities which is why there will be no ICO\nand only the development costs needs to be funded. We will create 280 Million\nUP tokens, which mirrors the current Steem supply. Out of this pool we will\ndistribute 195M UPs to the Steem community in various ways. Below you can see\nthe planned distribution for which we don't plan any ERC-20 token prior to the\nactual release of UP:

65M Airdrop For\nSteemians Based On UA

The 65M airdrop for Steemians will\nbe based on their UA score mentioned above. That way we will be able to\ndistribute voting power to everyone who has made Steem great and create a new\npower balance for the UP token from the root up. This will enable the majority\nof users to get more UP tokens than they hold in Steem Power, increasing their\nfuture influence on the Steem blockchain.

65M Bounty System\nFor User

With the start of the 1UP app in\nOctober we will release our bounty system for delegators, promotors and users.\nYou will be able to earn daily UP tokens for many different forms of supporting\nand participating in 1UP. The idea is to create a working system and strong\ncommunity by making everyone earning a fair share.

65M Bounty System\nFor Communities

1UP is all about communities and\ntherefore we will airdrop 65M tokens on the communities run via 1UP. All 1UPs\ngiven to any community will count towards their 1UP score. At the end of the\nPre-SMT phase, at somepoint in March 2019, we will distribute these tokens to\nall communities according to their 1UP score. How that excatly will take place\nwill be decided by the 1UP community to find the best approach together.

15M For The 1UP\nTeam And 40M For 1UP

55M\ngoes to 1UP from which 15M will go to the inner circle of 1UP. And 40M will be\nlocked in the @steem-1UP account for making it a constant super-whale\n(Megalodon?).

30M For Private\nInvestors

Out\nof this pool we will pay our private investors who helped to finance the\ndevelopment. This is also the pool that we use to reward all backers of the\nFundition campaign.

Fundition Rewards

Among\nall donaters of this Fundition campaign we will distribute 6 Million UP tokens\nout of the private investor pool. The campaign will continue until we have\nreached our two goals but if more donations come we will accept them gladly.\nThe 6M UP tokens will be paid to the donaters 1UP wallets after the app is\nreleased. This means you can donate any amount that feels right to you without\nworrying about different rewards.

Discplaimer: the UP token is no security and\nthis is no ICO. 1UP cannot and will not guarantee anything. We will base our\nSmart Media Token on the protocol from Steemit, which is expected for March\n24th, 2019. We cannot create the UP token without that protocol, With your\ndonations you simply finance the development of the app which is functional\neven without the SMT. The reward is merely a way to make it more interesting\nfor you and give back to our supporters.
