Cryptid Hunter – STEEM Version: Current Status & Future Direction

in cryptidhunter •  3 days ago

Hello, this is the Cryptid Hunter team.

Cryptid Hunter currently operates on both the TON and STEEM blockchains.
This post outlines the current status of the STEEM version, future direction, and planned updates.

1. No Paywall Approach

Compared to the TON version, the number of users who make payments to play on the STEEM version is very small.
Our team has no intention of aggressively pushing in-app purchases on STEEM.
We aim for long-term community-driven growth rather than short-term revenue.

2. Reward System Structure & User Perception

  • 40% of user payments are allocated to a reward pool within Cryptid Hunter.
  • However, due to the current small user base, the actual pool size remains limited.

In addition, STEEM has a curation reward system,
which is based on users voting on posts selected by STEEM Foundation curators.
These are two separate systems.

At present, most rewards tied to Cryptid Hunter activity on STEEM come from curation,
which means users may feel that tangible rewards are limited.

3. Witness & DAO Support – Current Limitations

While Cryptid Hunter has remained actively developed and supported,
we were recently excluded from the Top 20 Witness list and are currently ranked #22.

STEEM DAO or Witness support is currently unlikely for the following reasons:

  • The project is not yet widely recognized by STEEM witnesses or core community members.
  • Only 1 Witness has actually made a payment to test the game, and only around 3 users have tried the service directly.

In other words, we lack a strong base of user interest and support within the ecosystem,
which makes development funding proposals harder to justify at this stage.

4. Curation Plans & Expectations

Fortunately, the STEEM Foundation has shown a positive view of our activity,
and we plan to apply for the August 2024 curation program.

We also expect that an increase in active Cryptid Hunter players or Steemit contributors
will lead to more positive responses from the STEEM Foundation and broader community.

5. Ongoing Development & Migration Challenges

  • The STEEM version of Cryptid Hunter continues to receive regular updates and feature improvements.
  • However, technical and structural differences between TON and STEEM blockchains are significant,
making migration between chains complex and non-trivial.

6. Upcoming NOVA-Based Features

To enhance in-game economy and engagement, the team is introducing new features utilizing the NOVA token:

  • Packs purchasable with NOVA will be added to the STEEM version.
  • We are also considering a system where burning NOVA grants users additional rewards.

These features are designed to offer meaningful in-game benefits without relying on traditional payments,
and also help stabilize the token economy via voluntary token sinks.

Final Goal

Our long-term mission is clear:

"To use Cryptid Hunter as a gateway to introduce the STEEM blockchain and Steemit platform to external communities."

We will continue to operate with a community-first, non-paywall approach,
while expanding recognition and reach.

Additionally, we are hopeful that the upcoming launch of Cryptid TCG
will bring further visibility and momentum to the entire ecosystem.

Your continued interest and participation
are what drive the growth of both Cryptid Hunter and the STEEM blockchain.

Hi @roadofrich !

I can understand the fact that the witnesses are not interested in this game because there are several reasons.

The most important reason which comes to my mind is that currently cryptid Hunter game is just earning revenue from the people. It is just collecting money from people. I expect it has already taken nearly 10k STEEM from the users. And unfortunately it hasn't paid anything even a single Steem to the users.

So how you can say this is a game for the community to get involved in it. Literally you ask for the users to pay STEEM to get votes. You are selling booming votes to get in app purchases.

I would like to know your response regarding these questions. Why should users pay STEEM when there is no any return from the game excluding curation?
