Hello steemians,
There are places that, at first glance, capture the attention with their timeless charm and cultural authenticity, the Cafe Hammouda Becha, located in the heart of the medina of Tunis, is one of those rare places where time seems to slow down to give way to contemplation and conviviality, during a night walk in the old city, I had the opportunity to discover this unique cafe, and this experience deserves to be shared.
An enchanting atmosphere under an illuminated floral vault
As soon as you enter the alley where Cafe Hammouda Becha is nestled, you are struck by the beauty of the natural decoration, fairy lights are suspended above the tables, intertwined with the branches of a majestic bougainvillea whose purple flowers fall like a waterfall on the seated customers, the visual effect is simply magical, almost cinematic, you would think you were in a romantic film or in a scene from an oriental tale, this cozy atmosphere, filtered by the soft golden light of the fairy lights, offers an ideal setting to meet up with friends, as a couple, or even alone to enjoy a moment of calm.

A spontaneous and lively musical experience
The presence of a group of young musicians who set up their equipment on the alley's corner that evening made my visit even more enjoyable. The trio which included a gifted violinist, a darbuka percussionist, and a cajón player created a cozy atmosphere while playing Tunisian melodies infused with world music notes. This spontaneous concert soon caught the attention of patrons and bystanders, with some singing along and others fervently beating time. The contagious energy shared in this public setting served as a reminder of the significance of music in our culture and in fostering impromptu ties.

A simple and authentic drink at an affordable price
To accompany this moment of joy, I ordered a very fragrant mint tea, served in an ornate glass, as well as a chilled bottle of mineral water. The prices were quite reasonable, even in this popular, touristy setting, the tea cost 3.5 Tunisian dinars, while the water cost 3 dinars, and here is a summary table with the conversions into US dollars and Steem, taking into account an approximate rate of 1 USD ≈ 3.1 TND and 1 STEEM ≈ 0.13 USD:

Product | Price (TND) | Price (USD) | Price (STEEM) |
---|---|---|---|
Mint Tea | 3.5 | ≈ 1.13 | ≈ 8.7 STEEM |
Bottle of Water | 3.0 | ≈ 0.97 | ≈ 7.4 STEEM |
These consumptions, although seemingly modest, helped to make the experience even more delicious, the tea, brewed with fresh mint leaves, was incomparably sweet, while the iced water was a welcome refreshment on this balmy summer evening.
A multicultural and intergenerational meeting place
The diversity of those in attendance that night also caught my attention. Families, young couples, student groups and foreign visitors were all evidently enthralled with the location's distinct ambience. Everyone seemed to share a sense of escape and well being and this social mix was pleasantly noticeable, neighbors were able to converse over the little, vibrant tables, fostering a human intimacy that is all too uncommon in today's world.
An architectural setting steeped in history
The cafe is ideally situated close to the Hammouda Becha Mosque, a famous medina landmark. The stone walls, old arches, carved doors, and architectural details give the experience a historical feel while allowing you to enjoy contemporary comforts.

Remember to visit in the evening to take full advantage of the enchanting lighting and musical performances!

Presumably it is a translation artefact that it is also shown as Cafe Hamouda Pacha on Google Maps?
