This concept was developed when people became aware that the Proof Of Work is not so environmentally friendly concept. For example, the energy consumed for mining the last Bitcoin is expected to be enormous. The calculations needed to pull that off will be extremely complicated. )} The Proof of Stake concept is eco-friendly and complicated calculations are not needed. Users create the next block in the chain by staking their coins and earn additional value for doing so. The gain is calculated according to but is not exactly proportional to the number of their coins. It is something that we might call 'a fair lottery'. Some days you get more, some days less.
